A four part story of pizza-making

I love making pizza at home: especially if I want to customize the toppings for what I like. A tool that I find really handy to have is a pizza stone. You can find them at most kitchen shops and they are wonderful to have if you like baking bread too. They help ensure you get that nice crispy bottom on your pizza. But if you don’t have a pizza stone, you can definitely use a regular sheet pan!

This is a super easy-peasy pizza dough and you don’t need any special equipment. There are definitely more elaborate pizza dough recipes using 00 flour or fermenting the dough for 24 hours. This is not one of those recipe!

This dough freezes really well too. I usually make one pizza and pop the other one in the freezer for another time. To thaw the dough, I take it out of the freezer and leave it in the fridge until it’s dinner time.

Easy-peasy Pizza Dough

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups warm water, it should be between 105 and 110°F

  • 2 tsp instant dry yeast

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 tsp salt

  • Olive oil, to drizzle in the bowl

Directions:

  1. In a small bowl or a glass measuring cup: combine the water, yeast and sugar. Let the mixture stand until it gets slightly foamy on top. This should take about 5 minutes. If your water is too warm or your yeast is old, it won’t get foamy!

  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. To be honest, I have also just mixed the dough right on the counter if you have enough space. Add the bloomed yeast mixture to the flour. And mix with a spoon or by hand until it comes together. Sprinkle a big cutting board or your counter-top with a little flour and knead the dough for a few minutes until a smooth dough forms. Dust with a little more flour if it sticks too much while you are kneading.

  3. Drizzle the large bowl with some olive oil and make sure it is coated. Place the dough into the dough and flip it over once to make sure the whole dough ball is covered in olive oil.

  4. Cover the bowl with a clean tea-towel. Let it rise in a warm spot until the dough has doubled in size. This should take about 30 minutes. Separate the dough in half and get your pizza party started! Or you can leave it in the fridge for up to 2 days.

  5. If you are going to freeze the second ball of dough, get a zip-top bag and spray the inside with cooking spray or drizzle with some olive oil. Plop the ball of dough into the bag and freeze until the next time you crave pizza!

    Enjoy!
